Recent News in and around Saskatchewan: Application Deadline for Agri Investment Symposium is September 15th (Aug 24) If you are interested in presenting your agri-business venture to a targeted audience of investors at the November Agri-Investment Symposium, submit the following by e-mail attachment: Presentation Request Form; Investment Presentation - Maximum of 15 slides, PowerPoint format; Executive Summary - Maximum of five pages, including any tables, graphs, photos and financial projections. Chris Dekker Appointed CEO of Enterprise Saskatchewan (July 26) Enterprise Saskatchewan Minister Jeremy Harrison today announced the appointment of Chris Dekker to the position of CEO of Enterprise Saskatchewan. "I am very pleased to have a person with Mr. Dekker's leadership abilities take on this key role in the ongoing development of our economy," Harrison said. "With a strong and energetic management team, I am confident we will fulfill the mandate to push the competitive envelope and create the most robust economic climate in the country." Application Being Accepted for IRAP Reginal Awards for New Technology (July 16) The Innovation Insights program is widely recognized throughout Canada's manufacturing community as high-value, with practical demonstrations of manufacturing best practices in technological and process management. The ultimate objective is to enhance the innovative and productive capabilities of Canadian industry. Saskatchewan Exports on the Rise (June 2) Export sales in Saskatchewan were up 14.3 per cent in March 2010 when compared with March 2009, the third highest percentage increase among the provinces and well ahead of the 7.7 per cent recorded on a national basis. In the first three months of 2010, export sales were up 10.5 per cent over the first three months of 2009. Saskatchewan was ranked third highest in the nation over this same period. Saskatchewan Labour Sponsored Venture Capital Funds Raise $63.5 million from Saskatchewan Investors (May 25) Saskatchewan investors purchased $63.5 million in Labour-Sponsored Venture Capital Corporations (LSVCC) funds this tax year. LSVCC's can be purchased through the two leading funds, Golden Opportunities Fund Inc. and SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc. The funds invest in small- and medium-sized businesses in the province to help companies grow and create jobs. Precarn has allocated up to $4 Million* in funds to advance technologies that show commercial promise. The Technology-Gap Assistance Program (T-GAP) is the conduit through which the funds are awarded. Proposals must be received by May 17, 2010. Saskatchewan Cities Maintain Competitive Edge (Apr 12) KPMG released its 2010 Competitive Alternatives Study today that ranks Saskatchewan's four major cities in the top 20 per cent of a 112 city comparison. In the overall city rankings, Moose Jaw was 11th, Regina 12th, Prince Albert 13th and Saskatoon 21st among all the 112 cities included in the study. Global InfoBrokers is conducting research on the development of a provide wide Virtual Mentorship program for Saskatchewan entrepreneurs at the request of Enterprise Saskatchewan (ES). This project is based upon a survey conducted by ES in 2008 that identified Lack of Mentorship as one of the biggest obstacles faced in starting and running a successful business. To address this problem, the Entrepreneurship Council recommended the creation of a Virtual Mentorship program to the Enterprise Saskatchewan Board in September 2009, and the Board endorsed the recommendation. The purpose of this Study is to identify whether this service is feasible and if so, to develop a subsequent business plan.
SD Tech Fund will be accepting Statement of Interests from February 24th to April 21st 2010 (Feb 17) SD Tech Fund invests in late-stage development and pre-commercial demonstration of clean technologies by Canadian companies. The Statement of Interest (SOI) is an initial application used for preliminary screening and is subject to a competitive review process by SDTC and a panel of independent experts. SOIs are evaluated on the basis of fit with SDTC's mandate, selection criteria, and the quality of technology, marketing and business capabilities.
